ANAEMIAS

What is Anameia?

Anaemia results from a lack of red blood cells or dysfunctional red blood cells in the body. This leads to reduced oxygen flow to the body’s organs. Examples of anaemias are Iron Deficiency anemia and haemolytic anemias.

Iron is essential for the transport of oxygen to the body’s tissues. Lack of iron in your body can result in the following symptoms:

  • Extreme fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Pale skin
  • Chest pain, fast heartbeat or shortness of breath
  • Headache, dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Inflammation or soreness of your tongue
  • Brittle nails

WHAT TYPES OF TREATMENT ARE THERE?

If you have been diagnosed with anaemia or low ferritin you may benefit greatly from an infusion of iron as many people are unable to absorb or utilise oral iron supplementation.

Before receiving an iron infusion you must have a blood test to show a low result.
